Biblical foundation of the Nicene Creed

                     "In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:20)


1. I believe in ONE GOD, the Father, the Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things seen and unseen (Genesis 1:1-2, Psalm 122:1-2, Isaiah 44:24, John 17:3, 20:17, 1 Corinthians 8:6)

2. I believe in ONE LORD, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father. God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God. Begotten, not made. One in being with the Father. Through Him, all things were made (Matthew 16:16, 26:64, Mark 14:62, John 1:1, 8:24, 28, 58, 10:30, 13:3, 20:28, Romans 9:5, 1 Corinthians 8:6, Colossians 1:15-16, 2:9, Titus 2:13, Hebrews 1:8-12, 2 Peter 1:1, 1 John 5:20)

3. For us men and for our salvation, He came down from heaven by the power of the Holy Spirit. He was born of the Virgin Mary and became man (Matthew 1:18, John 1:14, Galatians 4:4, Philippians 2:6-7)

4. For our sake, He was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried and on the third day, rose again fulfillment of the Scriptures (The Synoptic Gospels and John, Acts 13:28-31, 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

5. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead and His kingdom will have no end (Luke 1:32-33, Daniel 2:46-47)

6. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life who proceeds from the Father and the Son. Who, with the Father and the Son was adored and glorified. He spoke through the prophets (Genesis 1:2, Job 33:4, John 16:13, 2 Corinthians 3:17)

7. I believe in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church (Matthew 16:18, 1 Peter 2:9, Acts 1:8, Ephesians 2:20-22)

8. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Exodus 34:6, Numbers 23:19, Psalm 32:5, 51:10, Isaiah 43:25, Hosea 11:9, Joel 2:13, Matthew 28:20, Mark 16:15-16, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:3-4)

9. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead (Isaiah 26:19, Ezekiel 37:4-6, Daniel 12:2, John 11:25-26, 1 Corinthians 15:51-53, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, Revelation 20:11-14)

10. And the life of the world to come (Isaiah 65:17, Revelation 21-22)
